Multiple Intelligences Action Research
Appendix L
American schools have traditionally favored those students who excel in
the
linguistic and analytical arenas because these skills are highly valued
in our culture. Unfortunately, this traditional approach leaves certain
students behind to stumble blindly through an educational system that
ignores their unique abilities. This action research study seeks to
show that instructional activities that incorporate the multiple
intelligences can improve students' attitudes toward learning and
students' academic achievement in English class.
Roaring Twenties
Research Project
(or What is The Great Gatsby all about anyway?)
What’s
it all about?
The
Great Gatsby, written by F.
Scott Fitzgerald, takes place in
the
1920s. If you understand the 1920s–often called the Roaring
Twenties–the novel will make more sense!
What
do I have to do?
- Research your
topic–you must each use at least three sources.
- Decide the form
your project will take–think about things you like to
do. If you are working with other people, don’t forget to use your
combined talents.
- Present your
completed project to the class.
- Each student
will evaluate his/her own project.
- Each student
will evaluate two other presentations.

What do I have to
turn in?
- Projects will be
displayed in the classroom after they have been
presented to the class.
- Each student
will turn in a works cited page.
- Each student
will turn in a self-evaluation (due the day after you
present your project).
- Each student
will turn in two peer presentation evaluations (due on the
day of the evaluation).
What am I
graded on?
- Individual
contribution to the project: Did I contribute my share of
the project?
- Quality of
research: Did the information I collected fully explain my
topic?
- Quality of
presentation: Did I present my information in a way
that was understandable and interesting?
- Creativity: Did
I present my information creatively?
- Works Cited page
- Evaluations
