The
Writing Tutor is sponsoring a special summer Young Authors Writing
Contest. Join in the writing fun!For more information about The Young Authors Writing Contest, see the contest rules, fiction judging criteria, or nonfiction judging criteria. The Special Summer Writing Tutor
Young Authors Writing Contest is open to students in who will be
entering grades 5 through
12 in the fall. Manuscripts will be judged in four categories: grades 5
& 6,
grades 7 & 8, grades 9 & 10, and grades 11 & 12. Three
winners will be selected from each age group. The winning entries from
each writing contest will be published online and will be archived as
examples
of quality student writing to which other young writers may refer.
The DEADLINE for submitting an entry to the Special Summer Young Authors Writing Contest is August 31, 2005. All entries must be received no later than 10:00 p.m. CST on this date. Entries received after this deadline will not be considered. Winning writing contest entries will be published on The Writing Tutor web site, and winners will receive certificates. A copy of the certificate and the winning entry will be sent to each winner's teacher and school. (For the summer contest, please enter last year's teacher and school information. Winners can update their information when school starts in the fall.) When submitting an entry to the writing contest, authors must include their full names and they must indicate how they would like their names to be published if their manuscripts are selected as winners. For example, some young authors and their parents may opt to publish the author’s first name only. Others may decide to publish the author’s name in full or withhold the name entirely. The Writing Tutor is not involved in this decision. If there is any doubt as to how an author’s name should appear, the winning manuscript will be published, but the name will be withheld until The Writing Tutor receives written notification from the parent of the author indicating how the name should be published. In order to submit an entry to the writing contest, complete the online entry form and copy and paste the manuscript into the text box. Manuscripts should be proofread and should be free from spelling and typographical errors. Manuscripts should NOT contain FORMATTING of any kind (indentation, alignment, bold face, italics, etc.). Please double space after EACH paragraph. If you plan to submit two manuscripts, please complete the entry form two times. Before submitting an entry, please read the contest rules, the criteria used to evaluate fiction manuscripts, and criteria used to evaluate nonfiction manuscripts. The Writing Tutor voluntarily complies with the Children's Online Protection Act (COPPA); therefore, parents of authors under the age of 13 must complete a parental consent form that must be mailed to The Writing Tutor before the author's entry will be considered. Please read The Writing Tutor Privacy Policy before allowing your child to complete the online contest entry form.
